Another Swiss Champion Title for Filippo Colombo
Jun 03, 2019
Strong of a win and a second place at the first two rounds of the UCI MTB World cup, Colombo was the clear favorite of the U23 Swiss Championships. “Swiss Championships can seem ‘easier’ than a World cup but the racing is different and I could really feel the pressure” explained Colombo.
But there was no external sign of pressure. Colombo raced at the forefront of the race from the beginning but had to wait until the fourth laps to “find the right legs. So I decided to place a first attack in the long asphalt climb. Vital Albin and Joël Roth only could follow so the podium was already decided. A lap later, I attacked again in the same climb and went on my own.” Colombo quickly built a 30’’ advantage and it looked like the last lap would be about managing himself and enjoying. But nothing is ever decided before the finish line and Colombo will most likely remember it for the rest of his career. Being a little unfocused at the front, he hit his crank on a root and fell; luckily without any damage neither on the man nor on his Fourstroke.
Colombo eventually crossed the finish line 33’’ and 51’’ in front of Roth and Ballmer respectively. “I am super happy with this win. It concludes a perfect block of racing. It’s now time for a little rest before a busy summer.”
